"Thank you very much for letting me know about your dad's death, Gary. We knew one another for close to 30 years, and I had the deepest respect for him and his encyclopedia knowledge of marine insurance. He was an icon in the business, and he taught me many lessons about marine insurance.

"We first became acquainted when I was doing a seminar at one of the early TrawlerFests in Solomons Island. The subject was taking one's own boat to Cuba, and I was making a point that getting insurance for the trip was one of the many stumbling blocks. Your dad, in the audience of about 30 people, raised his hand and I called on him. I knew who he was but we'd never met. He asked if he could speak to the subject of marine insurance for boats going to Cuba, and I told him "By all means." He spoke for perhaps five minutes and helped demystify that subject, and after the seminar he made a point of telling me he enjoyed it. It was the beginning of a long friendship.

"I'm truly sorry for your loss, and my heart goes out to you and your family. Al was a true original and an icon in the marine insurance world. He also performed very well as Nordhavn Owner's Group's expert member on marina insurance, and he opened a lot of eyes with his occasional posts and responses to questions from the group.

"I'll miss you dad."

Dear Cuz Eileen & Family, When hearing about the loss of Allen, I was not only deeply sadden, but I immediately thought about a man who was quite humble and yet, more courageous then anyone I've known. I was very proud to watch the service on line and "YES",the Rabbi was so eloquent in knowing and understanding the true treasures of what this kind man was all about. I'm reminded of a poem titled, "Sailing To-Night" that was written by Anonymous. "There's a ship on the sea. It is sailing to-night-Sailing to-night; - And Father's aboard, and the moon is all bright-Shining and bright. Dear Moon, he'll be sailing for many a night-Sailing from mother and me; Oh, follow the ship with your silvery light, As father sails over the sea. Allen was a wonderful man and will live within us all. Love you.

Al's Family, my sincere condolences to you all. I only knew Al since 2012, as his employee, however felt welcomed into his family. Thank you for letting me share in his memorial.
My own parents, took a sabbatical year, where the family traveled Europe, not aboard ship, but for us quite an adventure. Not quite as adventuresome as a two year circumnavigation, but know what he did for his family, by sharing this dream. May his memory sustain you, during this time.
