Obituary for Ann Leikach

Ann Leikach (nee Wygoda), of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, November 24th, 2022 at the age of 99. She is survived by her cherished children, Garret Swayne and Debbie (Hal) Weaver; sister, Rae Nachbar; grandchildren, Alexander "Alex" Weaver and Eric Weaver; and sisters-in-law, Zita Weber and Ruth Webber. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Martin Leikach; siblings, Leo Weber, Mark Webber, and Bronia Melman; brothers-in-law, Joe Nachbar and Eliahu Melman; and parents, Avraham and Devorah Wygoda.

At the onset of World War II in September 1939, Ann's family was driven by the Nazis from Poland to the Soviet Union where she was forced into child labor in northern Russia until mid-1941 when her family was deported to Uzbekistan for the duration of the war. She met her husband, Martin, in a Displaced Persons Camp in Poland after the war, and they both emigrated to the United States in 1948. They owned and ran a grocery store in different neighborhoods at different times in Baltimore for a couple of decades, the last one being "Lucky Foods" on Washington Boulevard in Pigtown.

Services at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208, on Sunday, November 27th, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Interment Beth Tfiloh Cemetery. The family requests anyone in the receiving line to please wear a mask while in the family room. Please omit flowers. Contributions in Ann's memory can be made to The USC Shoah Foundation, 650 West 35th Street, Los Angeles, CA; The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place SW, Washington, DC 20024; or The Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology, 550 N. Broadway, Suite 731, Baltimore, MD 21205. The family will be in mourning at 48 Bellchase Court, Pikesville, MD 21208, Sunday immediately following interment, with service at 5:30 pm; and receiving Monday and Tuesday starting at 11:00 am, with services at 7:00 pm both days.
