Steve, Beth and Laura, My deepest condolences to the entire Land family. As I watched the memorial service for Shani with my parents (Meyer and Barbara Peisach), years of stories and memories were circulating around the room. Your Mom was a special woman! So much life and love! My parents wanted to me to remind you of their special connection with your parents. My Mom was best girlfriends with your Mom from elementary school and my Dad was best friends with your Dad and in a high school fraternity together. It was only natural that they set your Mom and Dad up on that blind date, years later. The rest was history!!! May your Mom's memory be a blessing for you all, always!

Wonderful Shani and I enjoyed a long and very special relationship! Lovingly I called her Shanila. Well I recall her father, the famous baker at the Whitelock Street Bakery, who blended rye and pumpernickel into his innovative swirl bread. In Hadassah, we worked together tirelessly, advocating on behalf of health services in Israel and here in Baltimore. How proud was Shani of each and every one of her progeny. She gushed about them, telling about their activities, interests and accomplishments. Our Shani was one of a kind, unique, knowledgeable, outgoing, friendly, inspirational--a true Woman of Valor! Our loss is irreparable, our memories priceless! We pray that the memory of Charlotte "Shani" Land Lerner ever be for a Blessing! LOVE, Betty Samuels Seidel

Dear Steve, Beth, Laura and Family,
Our hearts were broken when we heard of the passing of your beloved "Shani". Our families shared many fond memories together at LJC and they will always be cherished! Your mom was such a kind and caring person who was devoted to the shul (many a PTA activity she helped with). She had such a passion for learning, but most of all we will remember her endearing love for her family. We loved listening to all the stories that she shared about all of you. You made her so very proud!
May her memory be for a blessing and may you find comfort in those memories.

I met Shani about 20 years ago when she was in a Yiddish class at the Myerberg Senior Center with my mom, Ruthe Leaderman. Shani was the “youngster “ in the class. My mom, who was at least 15 years older, was crazy about Shani. Shani was warm, smart, funny & a ball of energy. Although my mom passes away over 15 years ago, I would run in to Shani from time to time & she always remembered Ruthe. It always made me feel good. I will never forget her. To her family & friends, I am so very sorry for your loss.

Dear Beth,
So sorry to hear about your loss. I have known her for many years but I didn't know she was your mother. We enjoyed many of the same activities--anything Jewish and she was there-- shul, Hadassah etc and other classes at CCBC and even the senior center. We even lived not far from one another when she was married to Jules. Her smiling picture describes exactly who she was. May your happy memories bring you comfort over the coming weeks and months.

You don't know who I am but I have to tell you that I knew your mom when we were in high school. I always liked her and we had many of the same friends. She used to come swimming at the Towers many times and we always picked up from old times. I also knew your dad (Hank) and together they were a fantastic couple. Please accept my deepest sympathy and know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Losing a mom is a horrific tragedy but the wonderful memories you have should sustain you forever. Hold them close to your heart -- they will be there for a lifetime. Rest in Peace Shani - you are one person who will never be forgotten

Dear Beth and Family,
Just ten days ago I had a lovely phone conversation with your mom. We “met” during the pandemic—she was one of the ladies on my NNC weekly call list. Our conversations were delightful, whether we discussed books, politics, the ants in her apartment, her work with Hadassah, and meeting Bill Clinton. What a fascinating life she had. What a privilege it has been to be her “call buddy” these last few months. I will truly miss her. May her memory be for a blessing and may you and your extended family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Yerushalayim.

For many , many years Shani and I have been friends and close colleagues through Hadassah as well as Torah study. Shani exemplifies a life well led. Everything she pursued was with passion , enthusiasm, and a full and open heart. Her unique qualities and attributes enabled her to be an inspiring Jewish leader who made a difference for people in our community, nationally, and in Israel. A role model , leader, mentor and devoted friend to so many, Shani will be greatly missed. With all of her many accomplishments, I know that her greatest pride and great joy was in her family.

The entire congregation at MMAE mourns with Steve, Deborah and the entire extended family on the loss of Steve's mother, Shani. Steve is the religious committee leader at MMAE and Shani could not have been prouder, sitting near the mechitzah every week, hearing her son lead davening with a love of Judaism and its traditions which he surely received from his mother. Always enthusiastic and happy to be in shul, you could see Shani nodding her head in agreement throughout Rabbi Shapiro's sermons. If we were a church, she would be screaming Amen! and Hallelujah! Devoted to her family and many friends and to her shul, we will miss Shani's presence, her smile and her kind words to everyone. We have truly lost one of our matriarchs.
