Obituary for Cheryl Bonnie Deutsch

Cheryl Bonnie Deutsch, of Parkville, Maryland, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, at the age of 78. She is survived by her brother, Barry Deutsch (Sandy); two nephews; and many cousins and close friends. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Ruth Spott Klein and Martin Deutsch, and stepfather Edward Klein.

Cheryl Deutsch's broadcast career began in the early seventies as a reporter covering courts and government. During that time she developed a radio commentary known for its humor and irony; it was syndicated and heard daily for three years. She also hosted a talk show and originated and produced a late-night call-in program with the special feature of a studio audience.

While working for an ABC radio affiliate, she served as Washington Correspondent covering primaries, political conventions, following presidential candidates, and producing live broadcasts from the convention floor.

She's worked as an investigative reporter, uncovering fraudulent insurance claims by racketeering families and strong-arm extortion in bingo operations. She exposed car dealer deceptions in sales and repairs, and reported on economics with a regular feature on the stock market. During the 1980’s, she reported consumer-protection matters on WFMY-TV (Greensboro, North Carolina) and WJZ-TV (Baltimore, Maryland).

In 1984 she launched a small firm that specialized in developing marketing material for clients including apartment developers, attorneys, designers, physicians and video graphic computer companies. She also served as the press liaison for various organizations, and free-lanced as a writer for local magazines.

Cheryl enjoyed a variety of hobbies that included glassblowing, playing the piano, swimming, gardening and camping. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, she also studied a year abroad at The Sorbonne in Paris and continued her education throughout her life. Cheryl was an intelligent, kind, adventurous woman who never took life for granted. Her presence was a gift to anyone who had the honor of knowing her. May her memory forever be a blessing.
