Obituary for Herta Baitch (Griffel)

Herta Baitch (nee Griffel), of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the age of 90. She is survived by her loving husband Arthur Baitch, three children Larry Baitch (Sara), Daniel Baitch (Shelley Kramer) and Karen (Jules) Rosenberg, her seven grandchildren SFC Colten Baitch (Shayna Baitch), Rabbi Asa Baitch, Adam Baitch, Casey Rosenberg, Evan Baitch, Ryan Baitch, and Carly Rosenberg, and three great grandchildren Bayla Baitch, Naomi Baitch, and Matisyahu Baitch. She is predeceased by her parents Beila and Wolf Griffel.

Born in Vienna, Austria in 1933, she escaped the Holocaust as an orphan in 1940 and was raised as a foster child by the Baer and Friedlander families in Baltimore. She graduated from Forest Park High School in 1951 and married the love of her life, Arthur, in 1952.

Later in life Herta became a noted Holocaust educator, speaking to schools and universities, houses of worship, museums, and organizations. Her message about the devastating effects of hatred have touched countless people. Most of all, Herta was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Jewish Museum of Maryland, or the charity of your choice.

Services at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road Pikesville, MD 21208, on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Interment Arlington Cemetery - Chizuk Amuno Congregation N. Rogers Ave. Please omit flowers. The family will be in mourning at 119 Swanhill Ct,, Baltimore, MD 21208.The family will be receiving immediately following interment, with an evening Minyan at 7:30pm. Friday morning Minyan will be held at 7:15am and the family will be receiving from 12:15pm to 4pm. The family will not be receiving prior to funeral services. Masks are suggested at the shiva house.
