Obituary for Ilya Dolgopyat
Ilya Dolgopyat, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 at the age of 84. He is survived by his beloved wife, Larisa Dolgopyat; children, Dmitry Dolgopyat and Evgenii Dolgopyat; and grandchildren, Maria, Mitya, Gregory, and Tatiana Dolgopyat. He was predeceased by his cherished parents, Roza and Yefim Dolgopyat.
Ilya Dolgopyat was born in 1936 in a small village in Ukraine. 9 days after birth he has suffered an infection and had hearing problems ever since. His father died during the World War II and he was raised by his mother. Despite his disability and a humble background, he graduated from Moscow Institute of Engineering and Economics. Due to the antisemitism prevalent in the Soviet Union he difficulty both finding job and getting promotions, however, he was universally admired by his colleagues and friends for his quick wit and helpful attitude.
In his free times Ilya enjoyed reading, chess and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, two children andfour grandchildren who are missing him dearly.
