Dr. Jerrold "Jerry" Herman, of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away on Thursday, April 29th, 2021 at the age of 77. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elise Herman (nee Krasnov); daughters, Jennifer (Neil) Stiber and Jill (Ami) Goldfein; and grandchildren, Aryeh, Esther, Tamar, Yonah, and Eliana Stiber, and Ilan, Nava, and Asher Goldfein. He was predeceased by his cherished parents, Stella and Victor Herman.

Jerry was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was a lifelong naturalist with an encyclopedic memory, and a love of all science and knowledge. A dentist by profession and an artist by passion, he was as skilled with a paintbrush as he was with a dental probe. Jerry loved life and his contentment shone on his smiling face.

A private graveside funeral is planned for New York. Contributions in his memory may be sent to Jewish Family Services of Washentaw County, 2245 S. State Street, Suite 200, Attn: Development Department, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, or Temple Beth Emeth, 2309 Packard Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, or Foundations Preschool, 3770 Packard Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.

We were fortunate to have been friends with Jerry for forty years. From our first meeting at Camp Michigania to our last socially distanced visit on their deck, we have always had a comfortable and close connection. We will miss Jerry’s warm smile, curious intellect and gentle soul. His memory is a blessing.

I will cherish the memory of closeness the pandemic afforded us. Our lives were so limited but luckily we live close to each other. With limited mobility we were able to take walks, sit on the deck or just stand on the lawn and chat. Jerry will be greatly missed. Loving hugs to all the family. wishing you peace.

Joel and I have cherished every opportunity we have had to spend time in the company of Jerry, through our long friendship with Jill and Ami. It is so easy to understand how beloved he is by his entire family, and community of colleagues and friends, as he drew us in with his caring nature and vast intellect immediately. His gentle soul, loving heart and soft-spoken way enveloped others effortlessly. This, in combination with his clear brilliance and analytical acuity, is a powerful person indeed. Jerry is someone we will always feel fortunate to know and will remember with warmth and genuine admiration.

Dear Elise and family,
In the short time we had the privilege of knowing Jerry, we were proud to call him a dear friend. Eddie loved the movie dates with the guys and we looked forward to our special dinner club get togethers laughing and telling stories until late in the night.
We love you and are so sorry for your loss.
All our love,
Shelly and Eddie Schwartz
