Obituary for Joseph V. Brazius

Joseph V. Brazius passed away on April 15, 2023 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife Susan (nee Oberman) and sibling Ann Marie, of Baltimore. He is also survived by his sons Michael and Steven, a step-daughter Gina (and spouse Richard Smith) and a step-son Todd and friend Paula, beloved grandchildren Gregory, Garrett and Gabrielle (and spouse Sam Hoffman).

Born in Baltimore in 1932, Mr. Brazius graduated from Mt. St. Joseph High School in 1949. Mr. Brazius went to University of Maryland School of Pharmacy for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951. After basic training, he was send to Officers Candidate School at Ft. Belvoir, VA. After graduation as a 2nd Lt. he was sent to Ft. Campbell, KY and from there to Korea in 1952.

Mr. Brazius returned home in 1953 and completed Pharmacy School in 1956. He worked for Reads Drug Stores until 1958 and at age 26 purchased Brazius Pharmacy (formerly Sun Ray at 301 S. Broadway. After 19 years he opened Balmer Pharmacy and Deli located at 1810-1818 E. Monument Street. After 24 years Mr. Brazius retired in 2001.
