In my own words…
My name is Jules Leonard Schleider, but I am known as Leonard, Lenny or Mr. S. I was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 18, 1937, but Baltimore is where I spent most of my life. I graduated from Forest Park High School in 1955, then served in the United States Marine Corps. I then attended the University of Maryland and graduated in 1960. After my father’s death I entered our family business, a small catering service. I stayed in the catering business forever.

In 84 years on this earth, I have lived through the standard process of birth, school and work. I have been a son, brother, husband, father and grandfather – roles In another standard process. I’ve had my ups and downs.
As the saying goes: “The Devil is in the details.” `From the book – Rainbows and Storms. My Life by Leonard Schleider

Leonard leaves behind a legacy. Throughout his career he catered to generations of Jewish families; from brissims, B’nai Mitzvahs, to countless weddings. For many years, Leonard was also the Kosher caterer to the White House and Israeli embassy. As a national event caterer, Leonard also provided food service for the 1984 and 1996 Summer Olympics. One of his proudest endeavors was as the Founder and Chairman
of the Jewish American Festival, which began in Baltimore in 1977. Leonard has always stated that raising his three children to become kind and respectful adults has been the greatest achievement and satisfaction of his life.
