Obituary for Lois Winograd Seegal

Lois Winograd Seegal passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023, at age 80 in Baltimore, MD, surrounded by her husband, Robert, and other family members.

Lois was born on November 18, 1942, in Providence, RI, to Max and Roslyn (Herz) Winograd. After graduating from Brown University in 1964, she received a masters degree from Simmons School of Library Science in 1965. Lois worked as a children’s librarian in Freeport, Long Island, NY, and as a volunteer librarian in Pikesville, MD. A voracious reader, she often read more than two books a week. Beside their apartment door, Lois kept a stack of books which she had read to offer to guests as they departed. Lois and Robert (Brown, 1963) were blessed with a long and loving marriage. Together, the two met Lois’s many health challenges. Lois showed tremendous courage and perseverance in leading a normal life, despite her handicaps. The couple lived in Barrington, RI, for 20 years before moving to Baltimore for Robert’s work in SONAR technology at Westinghouse. After her husband retired, they continued to enjoy going to art museums, classical music concerts, and craft shows.

In addition to her husband, survivors include Lois’s sister, Carol Cederbaum (Westport, CT); a brother-in-law, Richard Seegal, and sister-in-law, Donna Prescott (Folly Beach, SC); nieces and nephews Amy Kutell, David Seegal, Deborah Jones, and Mark Cederbaum. Services will be private.
