Obituary for Mildred Bressler Dorf

Mildred (Millie) Shirley Bressler Dorf, 88, passed away on February 15, 2023. Born to Irene Scherr Bressler and Victor Bressler on November 18, 1934, Millie was born, raised, and died in Baltimore, Maryland.

She graduated from Forest Park High School. After earning her B.A. in teaching at Towson University, she then received her master’s at Loyola as a specialized reading teacher.

Millie was an elementary school teacher and reading specialist for 30 years. Most of her years were spent teaching at Westowne Elementary School in Catonsville, MD. She, of course, was also an avid reader. She started reading to her grandchildren the moment they came home from the hospital.

Millie married Stanley (Stan) Dorf in 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland. They were married for 63 years until his death on January 9, 2021. She and Stan loved traveling all over the world and they enjoyed sharing all the thousands of slides and pictures collected over the years.

Millie had many hobbies and interests. She loved to usher with Stan at local Baltimore theaters. She loved knitting, sewing, crafts, needlepoint, making handmade dolls, movies, music, puzzles and making her famous chocolate chip cookies every weekend. She also had so many amazing friends from playing Bridge, Canasta and Mahjong.

Two years ago, she fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Miraculously, she recovered with her full memory intact. Even after the fall, she was able to remember details and memories that most would have long forgotten. When Stanley died, she went to live at Springwell Assisted Living. She loved life at Springwell and made some amazing new friends.

Most importantly, Millie loved spending time with family, friends, her grandchildren Jack and Ryan and her granddog Darby. She was a second mom to so many and she had endless friends from elementary school, high school, teaching, her neighborhood and Springwell. Not only would she talk to many of them daily, but she was also wonderful at keeping in touch with her immediate and extended family. She remembered everyone’s birthdays. Everyone who knew Millie loved her. She was a beautiful person inside and out.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Dorf. Millie was the treasured mother of her daughter Amy and her husband Jon; and her son Stuart and his wife Dolcene. Devoted grandma to Jack and Ryan; and adoring sister to brother Joel Harold Bressler and her late sister-in-law Gail Bressler.

A funeral service will be held at Sol Levinson, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD at 10:30 AM on Sunday, February 19, 2023, followed by a gathering at the gravesite, including an unveiling for Stan Dorf at Beth El Memorial Park, Liberty Road, Randallstown.

Please feel free to stop by between 2:00 - 4:00 PM to come back to the house where Millie and her family lived for 58 years at 6626 Chippewa Drive, Baltimore, MD.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
