Obituary for Peter Ritterstein

Peter Ritterstein, of Owings Mills, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, February 12th, 2023 at the age of 74. Peter was born in Bratislava, Slovakia, and emigrated to the US in 1968. He started medical school in Slovakia and then continued on to graduate the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1974. He loved being a pharmacist and his customers loved him.

He married the love of his life, Blima Gutman, at Har Sinai Synagogue fifty years ago. They had two children who he absolutely adored, Nicole and Jason (Anne), and two grandchildren, Rose and Neil. Peter loved traveling, especially going to high school reunions in Bratislava. He took his family all over the globe. He enjoyed good food and beer, particularly if it was Czech or Belgian. Soccer and Hockey were his favorite sports to watch. He played soccer growing up as well as here at his community college. He also enjoyed gambling and playing poker. He was a very curious person who loved to ask questions and crack jokes.

Peter fought his battle against heart disease for five long years. Despite spending much of that time in and out of the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes with his children and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Our family was laughing all the time. He even made his doctors and nurses laugh. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Blima Gutman Ritterstein; loving children, Jason (Anne) Ritterstein and Nicole Ritterstein; dear sister, Susan Ritterstein (Lawrence) Pfeffer; adored grandchildren, Rose Ritterstein and Neil Ritterstein, as well as cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Martha and Eugene Ritterstein.
