Obituary for Phillip Allan Roter

Phillip Allan Roter died February 4, 2023 in Annapolis, Maryland. Phil was born May 16, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Saint Charles and Saint Louis, Missouri. He was the son of Alex and Shirley Roter (nee’ Slosberg) and the oldest brother of Laura Roter Klein and Brad Roter. Phil went directly from high school into the business world and found a talent for sales. He entered the world of cable television in its infancy and initially sold cable subscriptions door to door. With real talent he soon rose to district sales manager and then into cable system management as a director of the Montgomery County Cable TV while earning a degree from DePaul University. His talents soon caught the eye of headhunters, and he accepted a position with Home Box Office Television in Europe. Phil and his young family moved to Eastern Europe in 1996 living in Prague, Warsaw and ultimately Budapest when he became director of HBO Europe. They returned to live in the U.S. in 2004.

Above all, Phil was devoted to his wife Gina and children Calley and Zach. He cherished family get togethers and his many friends. He had a passion for riding motorcycles, tennis, golf and pickleball. He is survived by his wife Gina Lauber Roter, daughter Calley Roter, sister Laura Roter Klein (Jon), brother Brad Roter (Veronica Truffat), a very close cousin Roberta Senzel (David) and loving nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his son, Zachary Roter.
