Obituary for Robert S. Herman M.D.

Robert "Bob" Stanley Herman M.D. was born in Philadelphia to Julia Rifkin Herman and Harry Herman. He graduated from Central High School for Boys, University of Pennsylvania undergraduate, and Temple University School of Medicine. His post graduate training was in anesthesiology at Philadelphia General Hospital. He practiced at Harrisburg General Hospital following residency training, where he most enjoyed taking care of children and telling them funny stories as they went to sleep. He also served as a captain in the US Army Reserves.

Bob spent his final years living in Columbia, Maryland where he enjoyed playing golf, skiing, and dining at Clydes. A highlight of his year was the annual trip to Bethany Beach where he had the opportunity to spend time with his family, eat crabs, and float in the ocean on an inflatable raft. Bob also enjoyed fast Corvettes, black poodles, and singing with his beautiful voice. Not even his whip cream addiction could get in the way of his fitness; Bob managed to stay in great shape and was proud of the fact that he could still do 100 daily push-ups through the age of 88.

Bob is survived by his wife Carol Herman, daughter Sara Herman (s Horia, c Zeke), daughter, Karen Fielding, step-children Megan Wekstein (s.Josh, c Sydney, Noah) and Scott, brothers Jerry Herman and Tom Herman, and poodles Demetri and Nikki. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Julia Herman, as well as his beloved son Bruce Lance Herman. Bob will be missed dearly by his nieces and nephews (and their children) in the Herman family.

Funeral services are private. Please omit flowers. Contributions in his memory may be made to Anti-Defamation League, online at adl.org, or Temple Isaiah, online at templeisaiah.org. The family will be in mourning at the Herman residence, 6620 Towering Oak Path, Columbia, MD, 21044, on Sunday November 6, from 5 - 8pm with a service at 7:15 pm.
