The word that comes to mind whenever I think of Sally is "vibrant." It seems almost impossible to grasp that she is gone. I suspect I am among many who will find ourselves habitually looking for her at future SRA meetings, then realizing with a start yet again how much we miss her intelligent and lively presence. Warm wishes to all.

Here is a special moment celebrating with Sally in New Orleans, a city she loved to visit. The photo was taken celebrating her birthday at Peche, the same night the restaurant received the James Beard award for Best New Restaurant in America. We are with my parents, who loved her so dearly.

To the Family of Sally Minch:

I knew Sally from Cross Country Elementary, Pimlico Jr. High, & Northwestern High School. Sally & I remained friends during our school years. I would walk home with her from elementary school to eat lunch. Sally had the most beautiful red, thick, wavy hair. I’d pass Sally in the hallways at Pimlico.
I’d see Sally at high school class reunions. She was so friendly, kind, adorable & smart. I sat in front of Sally in high school history class. She would answer a question, & then our teacher & classmates would laugh. Sally had a great sense of humor.

I’m very saddened to know that Sally’s gone. It’s very hard to believe, & accept. I have a picture of Sally with other high school classmates in my kitchen. Sally struck a pose, & the picture is The Best. I look at the picture daily. Sally I’m so sorry to know that your gone.

Hugs & Kisses. Love you, Stephanie

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Sally was a good friend. We first met about 1989 when we began working together on climate change economics and policy in the government. That led to many meetings, conferences, lunches and dinners. Sally was always lively and fun. I remember enjoying a great conference on climate science and policy with Sally in Boulder Colorado, about 1990. We worked closely together on climate economics at the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) in 1993. After I left DC to go to Duke Univ. in 1994, we still saw each other often, including through the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA). Sally kindly invited me to dinner with her family in Baltimore, and later she introduced me to her nephew Ben who was on his way to law school. Our SRA work meant seeing each other at regular conferences in DC, in other US cities, and at the World Congresses on Risk in Brussels, Guadalajara, Sydney, Singapore, and more. It was always a delight to see Sally anywhere. I will miss her deeply. My sincere sympathies to all Sally's family and friends. - Jonathan

I first met Sally when Robert and I spent afternoons on Cross Country Blvd. after school at Pimlico Jr. High. I was12 and she was 14? 15? Sally was friendly, kind, vivacious, pretty, wicked smart--and quirky. At Robert and Julie's wedding, she asked me to keep an eye on her mother just for a second while she got a glass of wine, and she never returned (but I had a wonderful time talking to June). Like Rob, I have two older sisters (almost the same age), and I feel her loss deeply. My condolences to Robert, Sandy, and the entire family.

Dear Sally's family, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Sally was a long-standing member of the Society for Risk Analysis and everyone knew her there. I got a chance to work closely with her on one of the SRA committees. She always shined and shared with everyone her beautiful smile and her sharp thoughts. She will be missed.

Sally was an adjunct faculty at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She travelled here on more than one occasion to teach in our public health courses, and we collaborated with her on workshops for SRA meetings in the US. Her expertise in disaster management and environmental science was valued and she was a cherished collaborator. I last had contact with her in 2019, when we discussed the next SRA meeting and plans for a workshop. The COVID-19 pandemic overtook us all shortly after that and I am so sorry I did not speak to her again. Rest in peace Sally.

I am terribly shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my former classmate, Sally Minch (as I knew her in Pimlico Junior High and Northwestern Senior High). I also remember her well as my classmate in Hebrew School at the Baltimore Hebrew College High School. Sally also worked as a cashier/sales person at the old Stewart's department store at the Reisterstown Road Plaza in high school. I have fond memories of visiting her from time to time after school to say hello. I lost track of her after high school but I see from her pictures here she looks the same. My deepest condolences to her family and may her memory be a blessing.

Sally walked through this world with a unique style and perspective. She was caring and loved her friends with abandon. A day with Sally was always an adventure. I hope the great beyond is ready for her energy!

Very sorry for your loss. I first met Sally when I started Cross Country Elementary School in 5th grade. We had Mrs. Schaftel. She was one of the few students that was not snobbish & welcomed me. We sat at tables of 6 students. I sat across from her. I remember her excellent dance routine she did to a Herb Albert song. I had a dance routine I also had to do to a record. I also knew her from Pimlico Junior High School & Northwestern High School. I can see why she became a doctor because she accepted all types of people when I knew her & did not judge people where they lived or how much money they had. She was a down to earth person.

Dear Sandy and Robert and families,
I am so sorry to hear about Sally's death. Sally was my childhood friend. We were together at Cross Country, Pimlico, Northwestern and Dickson. Lots of memories in your childhood home. We would reconnect every few years. We were together at our last college reunion and just a few months ago we connected by phone again. It was always so easy to reconnect and start again where we last left off. I had just spoken to her again on the phone in February and thought a few days ago that I needed to call her again. I am sorry that I did not follow up with her sooner.
May her memory always be for a blessing.
