Obituary for Sherry Koplon Hoffman

Sherry K. Hoffman (nee Koplon), of Pikesville, MD, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the age of 93. She is survived by her children, Jo Anne (Jeff) Helman, Robert (Abby) Hoffman and Richard Hoffman (Lisa Gross); grandchildren, Jonathan Helman, Daniel Hoffman, David Hoffman (fiancee Madison Bray), Stella Hoffman and Ruby Hoffman. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Elmer Hoffman and parents, Louis and Estelle Koplon.

Born June 27, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama, Sherry, also known as MomMom to her five grandchildren, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign with a major in bacteriology and a minor in chemistry. Sherry taught bacteriology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine until she married Dr. Elmer Hoffman and moved to Baltimore in 1953.

Throughout her life here in Baltimore she was a substitute teacher, a volunteer at the Sinai Hospital Auxiliary and the American Cancer Society, and one of the founders of the Har Sinai Congregation Caring Committee that visited the housebound. Sherry was a voracious reader, played weekly games of bridge, mahjongg, canasta, and golf. She maintained her strong southern roots with her many loving cousins in Birmingham, Atlanta and elsewhere and greatly loved her entire family.
