Obituary for Shirley Kresky (Ritterstein)

Shirley Kresky, of Sykesville, Maryland passed away on Thursday, April 7th, 2022, at the age of 92. She is survived by her children, Stefanie Kresky and Marc (Cindy) Kresky; grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Gallo, Amanda (Patrick) Bering, Jamie (Christopher) Parrish, Ryan (Sydney) Kresky, and Emily (David) Tauber; great-grandchildren, Matilda Bering, Theodore Bering, Molly Gallo, Caroline Parrish, and Jacob Parrish; and nephews, Edward and Scott Carriero & family. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Morris and Rose.

Shirley Ritterstein Kresky, born on August 25, 1929 in Brooklyn, was a New Yorker through and through. She had two loving parents, Rose and Morris. Watching them dance together in the kitchen growing up gave Shirley such joy. Though an only child, she surrounded herself with friends and family and nurtured those relationships deeply. She loved going to the movies, getting her nails done, going to the beauty parlor, playing mahjong (among other games), shopping with her grandchildren (and eventually online for her great-grandchildren), and most of all, spending time talking with loved ones. Her kindness was unparalleled and known to all who came into her life whether momentarily or repeatedly. Shirley always let you know how dear you were and how loved you were by her, reflected by the number of people who were so affected by her during her life and after her passing. Her legacy lives on in each of us: she has instilled the importance of family, support, acceptance, kindness, laughter(!), expressiveness, taking care of yourself, taking care of others, friendship, and most of all endless love. We are grateful to have known and loved such a remarkable woman and carry her in our hearts today and always.
