Obituary for Shirley Pauline Rodbell

Shirley Pauline Rodbell (nee Albert), of Rockville, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, May 18th, 2023 at the age of 94. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, Oscar Rodbell; and her dear parents, Lenore and Louis Albert. She is survived by her loving children, Karen (Harry) Jackson, Brian (Yvonne) Rodbell, Jerald (Renee) Rodbell, and Annette Smith; her 9 loving grandchildren: Michael (Carisa) Jackson, Jeffrey (Mirna) Jackson, Deborah Jackson, Heather (Tyler) Ladue, Katie (Austin) Brinsfield, Danielle Rodbell, Robin Rodbell, Donald Stuckey, Jonathan Smith and 17 cherished great grandchildren: Zoey Rothwell, Jude Jackson, Elijah Jackson, Murynia Jackson, James Jackson, Manny Jackson, Ethan Jackson, Logan (Amy) Ladue, Hadley Ladue, Harper Ladue, Tajae Stuckey, Brianna Alston, Jewel Smith, Jonathan Smith, Jr., Erika Johnson, and Alissa Johnson.

After her children grew up and left the family home, Shirley took classes and earned certifications and recognition for various ceramics and painting techniques. She then started SPAR Ceramics and employed her skills to teach pottery/ceramics classes for the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department at Sligo Creek Community Center.

Shirley loved butterflies, birds, and dogs, particularly German shepherds. She mothered several generations of German shepherd dogs, all of whom were given the name Max. Shirley was always entertaining the caregivers at the Hebrew Home with her wildly embellished tales and crafted stories. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland, 20623, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 1:45 pm. Please omit flowers. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Humane Society of the United States, 1255 23rd Street NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037.
