It’s with heavy heart that I share with all of you the eulogy from my aunt Ettadean Epstein’s funeral today. She passed untimely last week and due to COVID restrictions, her many friends and family were unable to attend. We all loved her warm smile and personality and how she lived life her way. RIP Aunt Ettadean… There will always be an empty seat at the holiday table as well as in our hearts

Your mom and dad were close friends of mine. Your mom had a gift of always helping seniors in Assisted Living facilities to enjoy themselves through exercise. Also, your dad, through his business, was always helping my dad beyond what was necessary. Your parents dedication to many set a constant reminder of goodness. May the memories you share stay with you always.

We were devastated to learn of the passing of our dear friend Ettadean. Through our friendship of sixty -three years with Ettadean and Irwin, we shared celebrations, laughter and joy, acts of kindness and love and support during difficult times. She seemed eternally young-always lighting up people's lives with her laugh, sense of humor, kindness and generosity. Ettadean was a lovely warm hearted person that I enjoyed exercising with at her and a whole bunch of women in her home in Randallstown. She inspired me to stay health conscious and continue to exercise. She was so inspiring and I am sad that we did not keep in touch after she moved away. She especially enjoyed handing out those already plastic ziplocked packages of her home-made brownies to take with us as a reward for working so hard in her class.

To Ettadean's family, I met Ettadean many years ago through my cousin Barbara Friedman Goldman. Many years passed and we became reacquainted through Weekend Backpacks. I always looked forward to seeing her there. When I was first diagnosed with cancer, she made a wonderful contribution for my speedy recovery. When I saw her a short while later, I thanked her and told her I was behind on my thank you notes and she made me promise not to "waste" my time on that. The best thanks she could get is my recovery. She was a special lady and I am grateful that we got reacquainted doing something we both found special. May your loving memories help to sustain you and ease your sadness.

Dear Simone and family,
What a shock to read of Ettadean's passing. Impossible, considering her long time care in her diet and exercise. Each picture showed how adorable and youthful she was. How very welcoming to me she was when I lived on Forest Park Ave. across from your parents. She was only smiling and warm in her greetings from then until the many times I saw her at Sisterhood meetings. What a loss to you, her boys and all of us.

Your mom holds a special place in my heart. I use to exercise at your house in the 80’s. Your mom was always so sweet and positive and bragging about her entire family. She was so proud with her smile and true love of you all. I would run into her over the years and we always shared a laugh or two. A few weeks ago she called me as a member of Beth El just to check in. We had a great talk and she remained happy, laughing and positive. I laugh when I talk about going to your basement before gyms were around, she started me on my love of working out. She will be missed greatly. I know all your memories of her will be in your hearts forever.

Sisters share a closeness as I can certainly understand.
A sister is always there to give a hug or lend a helping hand.
Sisters are the best of friends in the whole wide world it's true.
And that friendship is a blessing that lasts a lifetime through.
You my dearest Ettadean is my beautiful blessing.

Ettadean was a person who brightened up the day of everyone who knew her. She was my first heart-throb when I was about 10 years old and she was the assistant in my orthodontist's office. At 20, she was so nice and so lovely all at the same time, with a smile I never could forget. Our lives became closer together when she and Irv became close neighbors and friends to the Brager family in the Forest Park area, and later in Randallstown. We stayed in touch throughout the years. Always that same smile; always a kind word; always so positive; always so fit and fashionable, and cute. How lucky we were to have had her in our lives. I mourn with the family and wish them peace. The blessings of kindness and positivity Ettadean bestowed upon her family (and my family), friends, and everyone she came in contact with are qualities we should all strive to emulate as a monument to her life.

Aunt Simone, Uncle Larry, and Family,
I was saddened to learn of your loss from my mother. Running in to Ettadean over the years, I was always greeted with her gorgeous smile, a little “kibbitzy” joke or laugh, and true interest in whatever was going on with life. In fact, when we became engaged, she sent us the most beautiful note which truly touched us. Oh did I envy her fitness focus...and her knack for it showed in her years of shear everlasting beauty. While your loss is sad, please take solace in knowing how lucky you were to have a sister, your sister-in-law, and your aunt. Much love to you all.

Sharyn and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Ettadean. Our sincere condolences to Larry, Mark and the entire family.
Lived next door to and across the street from Irv and Ettadean for many years in Forest Park and then Randallstown . Irv and Ettadean were a major part of my formative years and I am a better person for them being a major part of my life at that time. What I remember most is the way they treated my parents. Irv and Ettadean could not have done more for them if they were their parents. Remember baby sitting for Larry and Mark. Irv giving me my first job at Reads. Drifted apart in later years. Two good people are now united in Heaven. May they both RIP.

Dear Family,
Although, I can't say I know the family, I sure did know Ettadean. Your mom used to come to Tudor Heights and give seated exercise classes to the residents, one of whom was my mother. We hit it off immediately, both of us being involved in fitness training. She was so full of energy and life. I remember once somehow the issue of our ages came about, and when she told me her age, I think I almost fell over. I do remember thinking keep exercising Glenn. Ettadean was proof of that! After not seeing her for awhile, I did learn of some health issues. A lovely soul to be sure, and I will keep Ettadean in my heart, and your family in my prayers.

My Dear Simone, Larry and family
When I received the call about my old dear friend Ettadean, it was so hard to believe. We met when we were eleven years old and immediately liked each other. Ettadean was in all my classes from the 7th to the 12th grade and sat behind me. She always joked that I was looking at her test papers and I always said that i was in front of her and I could never turn around and copy off of her but, she could copy off of me. Always our joke. Always a smile on her face, her kindness to people, her enthusiasm in helping people of all ages with exercise , and her big personality.
I know how close you were and you will have her in your memories and hearts forever. Ette will be truly missed.

Dear Family - I was so very sad to see Ettadean's name on the Levinson website. I met her many, many years ago (high school sorority) and obviously, from reading all of these wonderful stories, she is the same wonderful woman as she was as a young girl. She was such an up person, always smiling, happy and fun to just sit down and talk to her. I was a little older (that didn't matter) and of course we went our separate ways, but whenever we met, it was like meeting your best friend and we found a million things talk about. I even met her husband once, and he too was so friendly and when I met him again in the Giant, it was like we knew each other for years. You were all so very lucky to have them as parents and Ettadean is one person one can never forget. My heart hurts for the family but I'm sure you all must have so many wonderful memories and they will always (forever) remain close to your hearts. Please accept my most sincere sympathy and know my prayers are with you all. May she Rest in Peace.

Dear Epstein Family,
What a loss! Ettadean's smile lit up the room. I first met Ettadean in February 1980 where she led a fitness workshop for The Women's Fair.
We lost contact until Fall of 2019 when we participated in a bereavement group at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation along with four other women. The six of us kept in contact meeting for breakfast every month before March of this year and every two weeks or so outside since then. Her sense of humor and her kindness will always be remembered.
