I had the great fortune to work with Susan for almost 12 years in the SAO. Susan set the standard for professional excellence and personal decency. She improved every situation she encountered. For years, she handled the most difficult and emotionally draining cases with the utmost poise and grace. She was admired and respected by all those with whom she dealt for her fairness, rectitude and persuasive advocacy, particularly for the most vulnerable of victims. Susan was an outstanding person in every way - loved by so many. David, Sam and Abby: I am so sorry. You are very much in our thoughts.

I am so sorry for the devastating loss of Susan, such a beautiful soul. Anyone who had the honor of knowing her was one fortunate person. Being cousins, I had the chance to spend a lot of time with her in our childhoods. A person like this will live in our hearts forever. Beautiful, Courageous, Wonderful. Thank you, Susan.

I am so saddened to hear about Susan's death. I have many wonderful memories from Mt. Washington as well as weekends spent at Bantry where she taught me to drive a tractor when we were about 11. Thinking of her will always make me smile. So sorry for your tremendous loss.

David: I had not seen Susan in a number of years after law school but, a few years ago we ran into each other in the Howard County Courthouse. It was great catching up with her and talking about where life had taken us. More recently I had a case with her and while she had a job to do, she was always willing to listen and handled the case in a very fair and reasonable manner. I am truly sorry to hear of her loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Dave and family of Susan,

You may not know me or recognize me. I work as an attorney in Howard County. I have known Susan as a fellow attorney for many years. But in 2017, our professional friendship changed. That year -- spring of 2017 -- I was diagnosed with Stage IV oropharyngeal cancer. Susan called me, gave me medical references, and -- most importantly -- encouraged me with her confidence and enthusiasm. She followed my treatment with caring interest and we shared some time talking about the way the disease process changes the way you look at the world. When Susan spoke of her family, her love came across the telephone wires and made me smile. Susan was blessed with a wonderful family; so am I. This loss proves what we all know: life is unfair. The world is still a good place, but less loving without Susan here. May God bless her and her family. I respect all faiths. In my faith, we pray and I will pray for Susan and her family.
All my love, Clarke

David: Though it has been many (many) years since our 1L days, I remember them fondly. And I remember you meeting Sue, falling in love & beginning your life together. Time flies and you look back and wonder how all of those years, months & days, went by so quickly. Cherish all of your wonderful memories and she will live on forever in your heart. I was truly saddened to read this terrible news. Sending my heartfelt condolences to you and your beautiful girls. May her memory be a blessing.

I am very sorry to learn of Susan's passing. I worked with her for 12 years as a fellow prosecutor. She was one of the best people, let alone attorneys, that I have ever known. To say Susan was the Salt of the Earth is almost an understatement. I am a better person for knowing her and will miss her deeply.

She made me a better person, prosecutor, and friend... she was the best of us. She loved you, David, so so much.... and Sam & Abby you were the lights of her life. I will miss her so much, but am incredibly blessed to have called her my friend. I am the luckiest person to have had her as my work wife. We love you and are with you all. I'm so sorry to hear about Susan. She was such a wonderful co-worker, and, more importantly, friend. She was one of the attorneys that ate lunch in the Grand Jury room and she was never happier than when she was sharing a funny story about David or getting a call or text from one of her girls. Her SAO family will miss her terribly.

I am so sad to hear about Susan. She was beautiful inside and out and I have many fond memories of spending time with her at Bantry. She taught me how to water ski although I still could barely stand up. My sincere sympathies to you, David, your daughters, Libby and Don and the entire family. I’m so sorry for your loss.

So very sorry to hear of Susan's untimely passing. I worked with her for 12 years, and she will always remain one of my most beloved colleagues. She was an outstanding, professional, and eminently fair attorney and advocate. May her family be comforted by their wonderful memories and by Susan's enduring love for them.

So sorry to hear about Susan at such a young age. She prosecuted many cases in my court and was always a very effective prosecutor who was an advocate for victims but a very professional lawyer well liked by the entire bench and legal community. She represented the best of the legal profession and will be missed.

Susan was such a fighter -- I really admired that. But what really sticks with me is how her face lit up and her smile got so big when she spoke about her family. My heart goes out to you and you are in my prayers.

It's difficult to find the words to convey how saddened I am by the loss of my beautiful cousin. We go so far back; I can't remember life before her and will never forget her kindness, her grace, her courage, her smile, and her humor. Our thoughts and love are with the entire family, who has always been like my extended family.
